New Zealand is the home of the Kiwi, the Maoris and a lot of strange slang words and phrases that may confuse visitors, even English speaking visitors.
Note many of these words may also be common to Australia, Britain or both as slang has spread through these countries in particular.
I seem to remember in the 1970s calling ‘judder bars’ those bone-shaking ruts formed in the insufficiently solid base of unpaved country roads by the continuous passage of ever more numerous cars.
