New Zealand is the home of the Kiwi, the Maoris and a lot of strange slang words and phrases that may confuse visitors, even English speaking visitors.
Note many of these words may also be common to Australia, Britain or both as slang has spread through these countries in particular.
I have only heard of "fish and chips", not "shark and tatties". Is this term only used in certain parts of NZ?
ReplyDeletewhy are they called shark and tatties?
ReplyDeletewill someone please tell me
Shark = fish. Tatties (pronounced "tay-tees") = potato chips.
Deletetatties strictly speaking is potatoes - but here clearly refers to chips
DeleteDefinitely called this in Christchurch but it is an old saying now.
